IMG_5971 I was able to capture this tranquil scene because the motorscooter I was using, like most motorscooters in China, was electric so noiseless. (I nearly got run over a dozen times in China by noiseless motorscooters as I walked along narrow streets and paths!) Another fact of China, this one unfortunate, is that that the "haze" is industrial pollution. The trees are planted, by the thousands of square miles along every road, lane and in every un-tilled field in the belief (vain!) that the leaves will absorb the air born particles. The trees are however breeding new industries -- plywood veneers, paper pulp, sheep and goat herding and perhaps most suprising, cicada gathering -- to be fried and served at the dinner table!
